Sabbatical Leave (Certified)

The Board may grant up to a one (1) year sabbatical leave of absence to any certified employee who has completed seven (7) continuous years of service in the District, for the purpose of additional education in an accredited institution or for any other purpose the Board determines to be in the best interest of the District.
Applications for a sabbatical leave shall be made in writing to the Superintendent, not later than April 15, and shall set forth in detail the purpose of the leave.
If granted, such sabbatical leave shall entail:
- A contract in an amount determined by the Board. If contract amount exceeds the sum of one dollar ($1.00) the applicant shall agree, in writing, to return to employment in the District for a period of not less than two (2) ensuing contract years commencing immediately after the expiration of such leave if a suitable position is available. If a suitable position is available and the applicant fails to so return to the District in that position, he/ she shall reimburse the District the entire contract amount paid to him/ her by the District during the approved sabbatical leave. Payment will be made in four (4) equal annual installments due and payable on or before June 1st of each such year, commencing the year after expiration of said leave;
- An annual increment on the salary schedule if the individual is not at the top of the salary schedule; or if an increment is approved by the Board for our similarly situated staff.
- Unless the sabbatical has been granted for purposes of the Board, the person granted the leave will be responsible for the full cost of medical insurance while on leave. Wyoming Retirement will be paid in accordance to the board approved percentage on any contract amount paid during this leave.
