Legal Ref: W.S. 21-3-111(a)(vii) 21-7-102(iii) 21-7-105 through 21-7-111
Termination of a continuing contract teacher requires that on or before April 15 of any year such teacher shall be given written notice of the recommendation for termination by the Superintendent or any member of the Board designated by the superintendent or designated by the board pursuant to a majority vote of the board, together with written reasons therefore. Termination under such recommendation, if approved by the Board, will be effective at the end of the contracted school year in which notice of such termination is given.
A hearing before the Board within thirty (30) days after receipt of notice of a recommendation of termination shall be granted a continuing contract teacher who has requested it in writing within at least ten (10) days after receiving said notice.
An initial contract teacher is any teacher who has not achieved continuing contract status. Termination for an initial contract teacher requires notification in writing of such termination no later than April 15 of each year by the Superintendent. The Board must offer a contract for the ensuing year to each initial contract teacher if such is to be offered by April 15, and it must be accepted by May 15 of each year or the position will be declared open.
