Neglected & Delinquent Students

Operational Definitions:

Neglected * -
to have been discarded, omitted through carelessness, disregarded, hardly worth notice
Neglected ** -
Students that have been committed to the institution or voluntarily placed in the institution under applicable state law due to abandonment, neglect or death of parents or guardians; and have had an average length of stay in the institution of at least 30 days
Delinquent * -
one who fails in duty, youthful offender or criminal
Delinquent ** -
Students that have been adjudicated to be delinquent or in need of supervision; and have an average length of stay in the institution of at least 30 days

Students classified as neglected or delinquent also would be classified in several other designated categories for students. The District has policies for those designated categories which are referred to at the bottom of this policy.

The District shall maintain a Homeless and Court/Institution Placed Students Coordinator who shall coordinate with the student, involved institutions and other designated service providers in providing the most practicable system to continue delivering educational services. The coordinator has at his/her judgment to access and involve any and all District staff as necessary in planning and delivery of said educational plan.
