School District 25 Policy
Adopted: July 20, 1994
The District will not discriminate against any employee, applicant for employment or student based upon any disability or handicap of such person in the course of the operation of its schools.
Federal law provides that no otherwise qualified individual with handicaps in the United States, as defined in section 7(8)[29 USCS §706(8)], shall solely by reason of her or his handicap, be excluded from the participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.
Individual with handicaps is defined as any person who (i) has a physical or mental impairment which substantially limits one or more of such person's major life activities, (ii) has a record of such an impairment, or (iii) is regarded as having such an impairment.
All qualified employees, applicants for employment, and students shall be accorded the rights conferred by §504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (29 U.S.C.S. 794).
Complaints or grievances alleging violation of the provisions of such Act shall be made, processed, and determined in the same manner and form as provided in Policy #1625 and its applicable administrative procedure.
